More than two centuries before President Abraham Lincoln proclaimed a national Thanksgiving Day in 1863, days for giving thanks were already being set aside throughout the individual colonies and states of Colonial America.
Since November 1621, when the Pilgrims held a feast to celebrate their first successful corn harvest, Americans have been designating days of gratitude for bountiful harvests, the end to war, even for fasting and prayer during civil strife.
The Thanksgiving we celebrate today and the food we eat may look very different from what was celebrated almost 400 years ago, but one thing remains the same – it’s a day set aside for giving thanks.
So, Thursday, as we sit around the table with family and friends, let us pause and give thanks that we have those people in our lives and live in a country where we enjoy peace and the freedom to enjoy the rich bounty America has to offer.
All of us here at ListEngage wish you and your loved ones a very HAPPY & BLESSED THANKSGIVING!Back to Blog
